The How

  • Requirements for UG (Bachelors Programs)

    • The Bachelors programs are THREE years long.

    • The Tuition Cost (excluding living expenses) is € 10,000 to € 15,000 per year.

    • Most German universities typically require 13 years of schooling for a Bachelor's program.

      • If you only have 12 years, you can:

        • Complete the first year of the relevant Bachelor's program at a recognized university in India.

        • Or, take a Foundation year at a German university.

    • You would need good grades with a minimum 60% in 10th 12th grade.

    • English language skills equivalent to an IELTS overall score of 6.5 (with no band lower than 6) is mostly required.

    • German language proficiency at level B2 is usually required.

    • A Good TESTAS Score is required by most universities and is mandatory for VISA.

    • A SAT Score is required by some top universities.

  • Requirements for Graduate (Masters) Programs

    • The Masters programs are for ONE to TWO years.

    • The Tuition Cost (excluding living expenses) is € 9,000 to € 15,000 per year.

    • You would need at least 60% in your previous studies (10th, 12th & Bachelors). Final Transcripts required by most universities.

      • Programs like Mechanical Engineering are very popular, so you'll need strong academics (over 65% in your previous degree).

    • English Proficiency: You must take either the IELTS or TOEFL test.

      • IELTS: An overall score of 6.5 with no band (reading, writing, listening, speaking) lower than 6.

      • TOEFL: A minimum score of 87 in the TOEFL IBT.

    • German Language Proficiency: While not always required, it's recommended to have some basic German (A1 or A2 level). More and more universities are preferring students with at least A1 proficiency.

    • GRE Test is required by a few universities, specially for engineering programs (like Mechanical or Automotive). A good score is considered to be 310 or higher.

  • Requirements for Visa

    • Valid passport (10 years old, valid 12+ months after return)

    • Completed & signed national visa application forms and declaration form and, Cover letter (explain study purpose & duration)

    • Passport data page photocopy (A4) & Biometric photos (3, meeting embassy requirements)

    • Proof of admission (acceptance letter from the German University)

    • Proof of first-year tuition payment & Proof of Financial Resources

    • The APS Certificate

    • English Language proficiency: IELTS (overall 6.5 with no band lower than 6) or TOEFL (minimum score of 87).

    • German language proficiency at B2 level is preferred, but A1 or A2 can improve your chances.

    • Academic transcripts (high school diploma, previous degrees)

    • Travel health insurance (€30,000 min, valid from departure to enrollment) + German student health insurance

    • The Embassy may request extra documents. A brief interview with a visa officer might be required.

  • Financial Resources for Visa

    You'll need to show proof that you can financially support yourself during your studies in Germany. This can be done through:

    • Blocked Account: Deposit a specific amount of money upfront in a German blocked account to cover your living expenses for one year (currently €11,208 as of April 2024). This shows German authorities you have a stable source of income.

    • Alternatives:

      • Scholarship documents (if applicable)

      • Letter of Commitment (Verpflichtungserklärung) from a German resident promising to support you financially

      • Proof of your parents' income (in some cases)

      • This basically means you can hold a part-time job alongside your studies, or take on more hours during semester breaks.
